What Small Wire Bending Equipment is Available

by RJ Myers
(Ellettsville, Indiana USA)

I am looking for equipment or fixturing capable of bending stainless steel wire approximately .050" dia and smaller for low volume applications. Ideal equipment would be capable of forming in 3 dimensions and have the ability to do full circles of different diameters and long smooth increasing radius curves as well as some sharp 90 degree and less bends.

Wire bending jigs, the smallest one that I know of,
by: Anonymous

Is the small wire bending jig, used by artists, I have used this up to 7gauge piano wire, ( and trust me, this is no easy bend ), and is used by wire sculptors, The cost at time of posting, 31 October 2010, is $9.19 In America this is available from Dick Blick art supplies and one other source, which is not near my computer but I have bought both, and they do the job perfectly, I will have to look up the other suppliers in my emails , but if you het no resoponse to this problem I will leave it until then to find it.

In the meantime there is a fairly healthy Radio Controlled modellers in the US, as there is in Europe, and particularly the United Kingdom, who use, and make these type of things, lastly Dick Blick art supply, ( as does nearly every jewellry company ), jigs for jewellry making and Dick Blick supplies a small range of bending pliers, next to the bending jig, in their catalogues.

But failing all of that the range of curvatures for these jigs is small, but once you have seen one you have seen them all, and making one, needs only a couple of steel pins or rods, and a block of metal, that you can get milled in any workshop I have even used machine tool screws, as rods, and a hacksaw, to make one when I was in a difficult situation, best of luck.
